About the Role
As Sales Director, you will play a key role in helping us achieve our goal of bringing recreational travel to the electric age. Having just launched our first model, the AE.1, in December 2024, we’re off and running towards first production and delivery of our Founders edition Summer 2025. You will have the chance to make a lot of travelers happy, building connections that lead to a growing community of Lightship owners.  

We are looking for a leader and a great teammate that is energized by creating solutions and building vs plugging into a system. You will initially be the first and only dedicated salesperson, working closely with and supported by the overall Commercial team — marketing, brand, sales ops, service. You’ll be coming in early but with two+ years of anticipation with reservation-holders, and have a need to prospect and land future owners. Lightship is a direct to consumer business, selling largely direct-online and with showrooms at our Broomfield, CO and South San Francisco, CA locations.  

Lightship is a series-B funded start-up with a bright future looking to define the future of RV travel and disrupting the space for the better. In this role, you’ll have direct responsibility for and impact on the path ahead. Initially, at our stage, you will bring strategic direction and leadership while also executing and delivering on the ground. In time, you’ll build and lead a Sales organization, connect and define service, customer experience, and more. 

This is an incredibly exciting and foundational time for Lightship and you will be integral to helping us build the Lightship brand, product, sales, and customer experience through our first model, the AE.1 Cosmos and rest of the AE.1 line. Given the trajectory of the company, this role has high impact and potential to revolutionize how customer care can be a brand defining and business enhancing aspect of the company.
Responsibilities
  • Build, lead, execute and deliver a sales offense that delivers results
  • Be the point for any/all inside and outside sales opportunities
  • Play a role in the full customer experience from discovery to delivery - working across the customer lifecycle as part of the Commercial team to maximize customer experience and delivering against sales targets for the business
  • Champion and implement systems and solutions that maximize sales efforts and begin the ownership journey and connection to Lightship
  • Establish and lead process improvements across the Commercial team and Company to optimize against targets, selling costs, and other KPIs 
  • Key interface - in person, phone, email, etc. as Lightship’s face to prospective owners
  • In time, hire and lead a diverse team across multiple locations and regions, planning and solving with growth
Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years as a sales business development leader
  • Experience in the automotive, EV, RV, equipment, or other premium industries, with a passion for and/or understanding of well-engineered machinery
  • Direct to Consumer model experience; fleet or company-direct sales
  • Start-up, scale-up experience with a track record of growth, problem solving, and strengthening the team
  • Strong knowledge and ability with HubSpot or similar CRM systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working at a D2C / B2C brand, preferably in the outdoor, travel, EV, RV, or luxury consumer goods industries
  • Success in a fast-paced environment and comfort in navigating feedback from various stakeholders
  • Passion and excitement for sustainability, climate tech and Lightship’s mission to bring electrification and RV travel experiences to more demographics
