Why I Chose an AE.1

We sat down with Bob Anderson, a lifelong RV enthusiast and one of the first owners of an AE.1, to talk about his expansive experience in recreational vehicles and why the AE.1 stood out as his next big adventure.

Q: Bob, can you tell us a little about your background with RVs?
Bob Anderson: I’ve been in RVs most of my life. Over the years, I’ve owned everything from small trailers to multiple Earth Roamers and currently travel in an Airstream Globetrotter. I’ve driven across the country with my family, camped in just about every setting you can imagine, and experienced both the freedom and frustrations that come with traditional RVs.

Q: What made the AE.1 feel different from what you’ve owned in the past?
Bob: Honestly, it was like stepping into the future. I’ve seen RVs evolve little by little, but the AE.1 feels like a complete reset. It solves problems I thought were just part of the deal like limited range, noisy generators, and outdated interiors. Lightship has built something that feels modern, capable, and forward-looking.

Q: Which features really stood out to you?
Bob: The TrekDrive™ system is huge. Being able to double your towing range changes everything, especially if you’ve ever worried about how far you can go with a trailer. I also love the Atlas app, it’s intuitive, and it gives me peace of mind knowing exactly how my power and water are doing. And then there’s the design—inside and out it just feels fresh, nothing like the RVs I grew up with haha.

Q: Beyond the technology, what excites you about owning an AE.1?
Bob: I’ve got grandkids now, and I want to show them what RV travel can look like in the future. With the AE.1, I don’t feel like I’m stuck in the past. I feel like I’m part of what’s next.

Q: So, why did you choose the AE.1?
Bob: Because it’s the first RV that gives me all the things that really matter to me: safety, comfort, ease of use, and independence— all in one package. It makes me excited to hit the road again, and to share that experience with my family. That’s why I chose an AE.1.
